Peels

A peel is the application of a chemical solution, TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) or Glycolic Acid (an Alpha Hydroxy Acid), to the damaged outer layers of the skin's surface for the purpose of removing and smoothing damaged skin.  Dr. Loudon assesses the patient's skin and the patient's goals in determining which type of peel she believes is best for the particular patient.

Peels are sometimes used to help with blemishes, wrinkles, uneven skin pigmentation or brown spots.  Dr. Loudon often performs a peel before a microdermabrasion procedure, especially if the goal is to improve brown spots.

Peels may cause stinging, redness, irritation and crusting.  Patients should avoid sun exposure after peels, and of course, always wear sunscreen of SPF 30 of greater.
